The former star of television’s Laguna Beach, 28 year-old Jason Wahler, has joined Origins Behavioral HealthCare as a treatment and recovery advocate. Wahler has been open about his recovery since appearing on Celebrity Rehab in 2010.

According to Origins, Wahler's personal story, expertise in peer support and celebrity profile will increase awareness for Origins within the recovery community, to advance the company's goal of future growth.

"I have no hesitation about using my personal experience to inspire people who are struggling with addiction and alcoholism to get sober," said Wahler in a statement. "The growing number of people going untreated for addiction to drugs and alcoholism is truly alarming. They either can't get help or don't know where to turn, so they suffer in silence."

In his new role at Origins, he will serve as a speaker at recovery conferences and events, levering his work with national media outlets. Prior to joining Origins, Wahler worked with Northbound Treatment Services as a Client Service Manager.

"When you see a familiar face saying 'I was an addict. I got help,' you're more likely to believe it's possible and seek help yourself. It's our hope that for many people, Jason will be that familiar face," said Origins CEO Drew Rothermel in a statement.

Wahler abused alcohol for years before he entered treatment in July 2010.
