Marathon Health, a Winooski, Vt.-based national provider of onsite health centers for employers, announced it is adding behavioral health counseling to its list of service offerings.

Marathon Health services will be offered by a master’s level licensed clinical mental health counselor. Counselors will provide treatment for depression, anxiety and substance use disorders. They will also provide counseling for individuals, couples and families, and lead educational workshops to promote overall wellness in the workplace.

Employee mental health has become a critical issue for employers. According to the U.S. National Comorbidity Survey, 18% of those surveyed who were employed said they had experienced symptoms of a mental health disorder within the previous month. A World Health Organization questionnaire, meanwhile, found that workers with depression reported the equivalent of 27 lost work days per year – nine sick days or time away from work and 18 days’ worth of lost productivity.
