Avon, CT — Magellan Health Services, Inc. has announced that 10 of its Care Management Centers have recently been re-accredited by URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry.

“We applaud Magellan on achieving URAC Health Utilization Management and Care Management Accreditation,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. “In today’s healthcare market, URAC accreditation provides a mark of distinction for organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality healthcare.”

URAC Health Utilization Management (HUM) standards ensure that all types of organizations conducting utilization review follow a process that is clinically sound and respects patients’ and providers’ rights while giving payers reasonable guidelines to follow. Standards address the use of evidence-based guidelines, incorporation of adherence guidelines, and evaluation of utilization rates to meet the demands of a changing healthcare system.

Care Management (CM) standards help to broaden awareness and demand for improved measurable outcomes, increase quality and the cost-effectiveness of coordinated healthcare through the use of evidence-based guidelines and adherence, and reduce re-admission rates through effective patient management, discharge planning and care transition.

“We’re honored to be once again recognized by URAC,” said Dr. Joann Albright, senior vice president, Quality, Outcomes and Research. “Achieving full re-accreditation demonstrates commitment to high quality standards and underscores the quality of the work we deliver to customers, members and providers while reinforcing our role as an industry leader.”
