According to numerous sources, two people are dead and five more were injured after a shooting in the lobby of the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh. One of the dead was the individual who allegedly fired the shots.

Pittsburgh police responded just before 2 pm to reports of shooting in the WPIC building's lobby. A UPMC policeman was reportedly hit in the leg, but there is as yet no other word as to the identities of the others involved or whether any were staff members or patients of WPIC.

WPIC is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and is located directly across the street from the University of Pittsburgh's Medical School and the Trauma/Emergency Department of UPMC's Presbyterian Hospital, to which all victims were transported. As of 3:50 pm, UPMC spokesman Paul Wood reported that the WPIC building is secure. Many nearby buildings on the University of Pittsburgh campus remain on "lockdown."
