Community Behavioral Healthcare Conference

The National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare's 36th Annual Training Conference is April 8-11 in Orlando. Speakers include Mary Jane England, MD, chair of the Institute of Medicine's Committee on Crossing the Quality Chasm: Adaptation to Mental Health and Addictive Disorders. The conference will feature more than 60 interactive institutes and workshops encompassing clinical, operational, governance, and policy issues.

Clinical and Billing Software

ClaimTrak Systems, Inc.'s ClaimTrak® for Windows solution is a comprehensive product that streamlines clinical management, claims processing and billing, reporting, and client scheduling. The package includes three interactive modules: Clinical Module, Claims Processing Module, and Scheduling Module. The company recently signed a contract with Advocates, Inc., which provides residential, vocational, respite, and psychiatric emergency services at more than 100 sites in eastern Massachusetts.

Customizable EMR System

ChartShare offers a completely customizable electronic medical record (EMR) system, which allows users to have real-time access to patient records in a familiar and interactive format. All authorized users can access records simultaneously. A choice of input methods is available: handwriting, typing, voice recognition, or dictation. Users can not only access the entire patient chart, but other clinical links that provide ready information on medications, drug-drug interactions, medical conditions, patient education handouts, facility policies and bylaws, and more. All data are encrypted using the latest technology, and a full backup and recovery plan are incorporated into the server and network.

Integrated Enterprise Software

Lavender & Wyatt Systems, Inc.'s (LWSI) flagship product, Essentia, is an enterprise software solution that incorporates all behavioral health administrative, human service, and clinical information functions, providing a single point of reference for accounting, billing, client record maintenance, scheduling, and reporting. LWSI is now in the deployment phase of the Essentia portal enhancement, allowing for a true electronic medical record (EMR) across all aspects of the system. This provides every employee access to “dashboards” of critical real-time information. For example, clinicians see schedules, alerts, and treatment plans pending approval; financial managers see accounts-receivable status and billing issues; human resources professionals see job requests and certification reminders; and so on. Each employee also sees personal information such as agency notices, leave balances, schedules, etc.

Electronic Prescribing Capability

DocuTrac, Inc., has added electronic prescribing capability to both the standard and the enterprise editions of the QuicDoc® Clinical Documentation Software. DocuTrac has worked to provide e-Prescription capability through an Internet-based prescribing system. QuicDoc's e-Prescription system is powered by NewCrop, a SureScripts-Certified Solution. Users will have the ability to maintain a complete medication and allergy history, check for drug interactions and allergies, check patient-specific formulary information, and complete refill authorizations with just a couple of clicks of a mouse. The newest version of the enterprise software also includes Nursing Notes, Vital Signs Monitoring, Physician Order Entry, and Medication Schedule and Dispensing Tracking with electronic signature capability.

Smoking-Cessation System

The SmokeSignals smoking-cessation program is a high-tech delivery system with a “smart” cigarette case that electronically records every cigarette smoked, building a profile of the habits associated with the individual's smoking patterns. From this profile, it tailors a customized Quit Plan that signals when to smoke, effectively breaking conditioned associations with smoking. SmokeSignals offers volume pricing, training, and support.
