A new Las Vegas facility with crisis care and community resources components aims to ease the strain on emergency rooms that are seeing an influx of individuals with addiction and/or mental health disorders.

WestCare Nevada, which receives public funding support at the federal, state and local levels, is operating the 22,000-square-foot Community Triage Center and Community Involvement Center. Services include medically supervised detox for patients with mental health issues; outpatient substance abuse treatment; and prevention education.

The center offers a crisis-care option for paramedics or police officers who encounter a patient in need. Some assessed patients will be treated at WestCare facilities, while some will be referred to other treatment organizations. WestCare has treatment operations in 17 states and two U.S. territories.
