The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology has delayed its plan to begin certifying behavioral health electronic health record (EHR) products.

Originally scheduled to begin next summer, certification of behavioral health EHR products is now scheduled to begin in July 2010.

A CCHIT spokeswoman says the behavioral health workgroup is exploring the possibility of creating a separate certification for behavioral health products, instead of as an add-on to ambulatory EHR certification.
